Catherine Anite

Catherine Anite is a lawyer and the Founding Director of the Freedom of Expression Hub. She has previously worked in senior positions both domestically and regionally advancing the right to expression and media, through capacity building initiatives, public interest litigation in domestic and regional courts, legal and policy analysis and advocacy campaigns. She has served as a senior judge at the International media law moot court at the University of Oxford, and received a Mandela Washington Fellowship from the U.S. State Department in 2014, where she studied civic leadership at the University of Delaware and attended President Obama’s summit for young African leaders in Washington D.C.

In 2016, she was a Legal Fellow at the Centre for Law and Democracy in Canada and at the International Centre for Not-for-Profit Law in Washington D.C. Catherine was a researcher for Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung’s Media Law Handbook for Eastern Africa (2017), has facilitated at domestic, regional and global trainings on freedom of expression, including at the Annenberg-Oxford University Media Policy Summer School. She is also a researcher for the Global Freedom of Expression project at Columbia University, New York. Catherine earned an LLM in International Human Rights Law from Notre Dame University, USA graduating Magna Cum Laude, an LLB with honors from Makerere University, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda.

Raghav Mendiratta

Raghav Mendiratta is a final year student pursuing B.A.LLB (Hons.) at National Law University, Punjab (India). He is a Legal Researcher with Columbia University’s Global Centre for Freedom of Expression. At his University, he is the Convener of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Criminal Law and also heads the Debate Society.

He has participated in various International Moot Court and Debate Competitions. He was an Oralist at the 11th Price Media Moot Court Competition where his team emerged the Winner at the South Asia Rounds and he emerged as one of the Top 10 Oralists at the International Rounds at the University of Oxford. He is an alumnus of the 20th Annenberg – Oxford Media Law Summer Policy Institute at the University of Oxford. Previously, Raghav has clerked with two sitting judges of the Indian Supreme Court, the former Additional Solicitor General of India, the National Human Rights Commission and with other media law & human rights organizations.
